The purpose of this study was to evaluate the surgery
results for vestibular schwannomas of 2 cm or less, by
translabyrinthine and retrosigmoid approaches, and to
determine the indications for each approach. 66 patients
with vestibular schwannomas of 2 cm or less were resected
on our service, 38 by retrosigmoid approach and 28
by translabyrinthine approach. The conclusion is that
the retrosigmoid approach is better than the translabyrinthine
to resect these kind of lesions, due to a better
facial function, for less complications and better tumoral
control.

El propósito de este estudio es evaluar los resultados de
la cirugía para neurinomas del acústico de 2 cms o menos,
por vía translaberíntica y retrosigmoidea, y determinar las
indicaciones de cada abordaje. 66 pacientes con schwannomas
vestibulares de 2 cms o menos de diámetro se
intervinieron en nuestro servicio, 38 por vía retrosigmoidea
y 28 por vía translaberíntica. La conclusión a la que
llegamos es que el abordaje retrosigmoideo es superior al
translaberíntico para resecar este tipo de lesiones, tanto
por función facial, como por complicaciones y control
tumoral.
