Las neoplasias epiteliales del timo son raras y surgen del mediastino anterior. De todas ellas, el timoma es la más frecuente. Un tercio de estos timomas se diagnosticarán incidentalmente, otro tercio darán síntomas torácicos y el último tercio se diagnosticará por la aparición de un síndrome paraneoplásico o autoinmune siendo el más frecuente la miastenia gravis. El diagnóstico y el estadio de estas masas se realiza con biopsia y mediante técnicas de imagen. El tratamiento consistirá en la resección de la masa si es posible. La quimioterapia y la radioterapia se emplearán como tratamiento postoperatorio, neoadyuvante o para prolongar la supervivencia.
SUMMARY
The epitelial thymic neoplasms are rare and are araised from the anterior mediastinum. From all of them, thymoma is the most common. One third of this thymomas are diagnosed incidentally, another third will have a thoracic symptoms and the last third are diagnosticaded by the appereance of paraneoplasic or inmunological syndrome, being the most frequent myasthenia gravis. The diagnosis and the staging of these mases is done with biopsy and image techniques. Treatment involves resection of the mass if posible.
